Top 10 Dental Implant Questions — Answered Honestly by Dr. C

By Dr. Chakrapani Nannapaneni, DDS · UCSF School of Dentistry · June 2026 · Frisco TX

After placing implants for patients across Frisco for over two decades, I've noticed the same handful of questions come up at almost every consultation. Here are the ten I hear most — answered directly, with the honest detail I'd give a friend. If your question isn't here, bring it to your implant consultation.

1. How much do dental implants cost?

A single implant in Frisco TX usually runs $3,000–$5,000 for the implant, abutment, and crown together. All-on-4 full-arch is roughly $20,000–$30,000 per arch. Your number depends on bone grafting, materials, and insurance — see our full implant cost guide for the breakdown.

2. Do implants hurt?

Less than most people fear. Placement is done under local anesthetic with sedation available, and most patients say it was easier than an extraction. Expect mild soreness for a few days, managed with over-the-counter pain relievers.

3. How long do they last?

The titanium post can last a lifetime because it fuses to your bone. The crown on top typically lasts 10–15 years before normal wear may call for a replacement.

4. What's the success rate?

Around 95–98% in healthy patients — one of the most predictable procedures in all of dentistry. Smoking is the single biggest factor that lowers those odds.

5. Am I too old — or too young?

There's no upper age limit; bone and general health matter, not the number. For younger patients, we wait until the jaw is fully grown — more on that in this guide.

6. How long does the whole process take?

A standard implant takes 3–6 months to allow osseointegration (the implant fusing with bone). Some cases qualify for same-day teeth — see immediate vs delayed loading.

7. What if I don't have enough bone?

Bone loss is common after teeth have been missing for a while, but it's usually solvable with bone grafting. All-on-4's angled technique can also avoid grafting in many cases.

8. Are implants better than a bridge or denture?

For most people, yes — implants preserve bone and don't rely on neighboring teeth. But there are real situations where a bridge is the right call. Compare all options in missing teeth options.

9. How do I care for an implant?

Just like a natural tooth: brush twice daily, floss around it, and keep your regular checkups. Implants can't get cavities, but the gums and bone around them still need care to prevent peri-implantitis.

10. Does insurance cover implants?

Many PPO plans now cover a portion of implant treatment, and CareCredit 0% financing, HSA, and FSA all apply. We verify your benefits up front so you know your real out-of-pocket before starting.
