Sedation by Age Group
Nitrous oxide is extremely safe and commonly used for anxious children or those undergoing more extensive treatment (extractions, fillings). Dr. C introduces the mask playfully — many children describe it as "smelling like bubblegum" when a fruit-scented mask is used. Parents are welcome in the treatment room throughout the visit. For very young children or those needing extensive work, referral to a pediatric specialist may be appropriate.
Teens who are anxious about dental treatment often respond very well to nitrous oxide. Common scenarios: wisdom tooth extractions, complex fillings, or simply accumulated anxiety from years of avoidance. Parental consent is required for patients under 18.
